batard
Etcetera wants to give particular attention to young artitsts. So does Bâtard, the festival held every year in December in Brussels. For the he 2014 edition – held under the slogan “Stretching the moment” – the organizers of the festival compiled a reader of texts. As a lot of the themes connect to Etcetera’s interest, we like to share the reader here.
“These references constitute sources from yesterday and proposals for tomorrow. All together they surround the moment, while each of them separately expands it. We believe they can outlive the physical time of the festival and continue this occupation of time, this care for thoughts. This reader isn’t the lens to understand the moment, it is diverse lenses we propose to grasp more of each thoughts. To complexify, for we believe complexity and diversity of thoughts are weapons for the battles ahead.
We called for stretching the moment as much as one might find suitable. We call for considering the instant, inhabiting it, investing it. Therefore not only was our selection only composed of thought provoking works by young artists who reclaim time, require attention, and in a firm yet generous manner really occupy this moment. But we also presented them embedded in a specifically framed context to both confirm and support them; a context filled with what came before, but also what can come after them. A curated time and space that allows for both the sedimentation and the circulation of our new and old thoughts: a stretch of the moment.”
In the reader you will find the following texts:
