Podcast The Workspace – Episode 8 Bryana Fritz

This summer, our editors are heading out on studio visits. And you can listen in! Together with podcaster Luc de Groen Etcetera produces the podcast series The Workspace. Out of curiosity for the place where makers work and brood on ideas, we visit a studio, a home, a space that inspires.

Artists’ Entrance: Benny Claessens

Every month, Etcetera gazes into the soul of a performing artist. We choose artistic interest over human interest. This time, we are happy to give the word to actor and theatre maker Benny Claessens. He played in performances by Luk Perceval, Jan Decorte, Johan Simons and Ersan Mondtag, among others. For his acting work he received the Arlecchino in 2009 and Alfred-Kerr-Darstellerpreis in 2018. As a theatre maker, he has been drawing his own uncompromising path for years, with performances such as Hello Useless (Campo, 2015) and Learning How to Walk (NTGent, 2016).

Between pandemic and protest

The political pressure of antidemocratic far right ideology is greater than ever, but so is the people’s determination as they cry out: get the fuck out!

That is essential for the future survival of an art form every bit as authentic and culturally relevant as all other forms of contemporary dance.
